Rake is how poker rooms make money
Rake is the commission fee charged by poker rooms for organizing games. Poker is a casino game in the respect that players do not play against the house, but against other players. The best hand wins the pot and money always goes to the winning player. To make money from this, poker room takes rake from every pot. Different poker rooms take different rakes. Normally, it is about 5 %, which can be equal to cents or till $5. Besides rake taken from cash game pots, the tournament fees that poker rooms charge are also considered to be rake. The word rake actually comes from roulette, where the operator uses a rake to pull in chips that players lose.

Rakeback is a refund of your rake
Rakeback is refunding a certain percetage of rake to the player. This percetae depends on the agreement with poker room. Rakeback Ltd has signed an affiliate contract with each of our supported poker rooms. Rakeback is paid from the affiliate commission that we get from poker rooms for referring new players to their site, that are tagged with our affiliate code. How your rake is calculated
Poker rooms do not tell you how much rake you pay; you only see the total amount of rake taken out from each pot. For accounting purposes your individual rake contribution is however recorded, and rakeback is based on these calculations. There are two main methods that poker rooms use to calculate your individual rake contribution: shared and contributed.
In the shared method, rake is divided evenly among all players that were dealt cards. For example if there are ten players and the rake is $1, each player would be assigned 10 cents of rake. Player does not have to put money to the pot to get assigned rake, and it does not matter if you fold pre-flop.
In the contributed method, players must contribute money to the pot to get assigned rake. The rake a player gets credited with is proportionate to the amount of his/her pot contribution. If you were to contribute $50 to a pot of $150 and the rake taken from that pot was $3, you would get credited with $1 rake.
